We, the undersigned, are petitioning the City Council and Mayor's office of New Orleans to reject Mayor Landrieus' proposed extension of hours and rate increases for public metered spaces in the French Quarter and other areas of New Orleans. This proposed policy will negatively impact working class citizens of our city, especially service industry employees and musicians who are indispensable to the city's tourist economy. We further ask the Council and Mayor to invite musicians and rank and file representatives from the service industry to discuss more sustainable sources of revenue for our city

I just looked at the screen and saw the number hit one thousand signatures and I honestly had to sit down for a minute because this feels completely surreal. It is wild to think about that many people caring about parking rates and my heart is seriously racing right now just thinking about the service workers and musicians who deserve so much better than these rate hikes.

I just looked at the screen and saw triple digits which feels honestly surreal because this started as a total shot in the dark. It is wild to think about how many people actually deal with these parking headaches every single night and I am genuinely glad we are finally talking about how much this hurts the people who keep the city running.

Instead of adding hours & raising rates, why not look at what loading zones could be turned into metered parking areas. There are several loading zones around the quarter for business that no longer exist or hotel zones where hotels are no longer there.
I am a musician who plays on Frenchmen St. It would be a burden if I had to run out during my set break to fill the meter. There are other revenue streams that the city needs to look at before prying more money from people who can barely afford it as it is!
This parking change is absurd. Not only does it punish people working in the city, it makes it impossible to park on the street for Pelicans and Saints games as well as concerts where the audience isn't allowed re-entry. This needs to end.
I work in the French quarter as a bartender. While I can accept an increase in rates during special events and holidays, during the rest of the year it's important that my coworkers and I be able to find affordable parking when we come to work.
This will keep even more locals and tourists from coming to the quarter...not to mention how much it will greatly impact the peope like me that own a business in the quarter but live elsewhere and have to drive in daily. The cost is already excessive!!

First the ferry and now this. The hardest hit will be Hospitality workers. How can I expect someone that I need for a 10 hour shift to pay $30 a day for parking? It's unreasonable and detrimental to the very industry that keeps this city thriving.
