If you are not aware, the North Surry High School graduation ceremony has been moved back a week to June 17th. This conflicts with the schedules of many seniors, making it unable for them to attend one of the most memorable days of their lives. If we get enough signatures, we can have a case to present to the Board of Education as soon as possible. The students literally missed 3 days of school and there's apparently no make up days until the end of the year? Makes no sense. Move graduation or refund the students that have already paid for senior week and other family vacations.
If this is an issue school should start earlier than the end of August to prevent the later dates for graduation. Some colleges have summer sessions that some of these graduating seniors will be attending.
Countless #s of families already had Vacation plans established around the original date. By changing the date you are forcing Seniors as well as their family members to make a decision between Graduation and Family Vacation or other events such as Weddings.
When I graduated from North Surry I moved into college on June 15! Some of the awesome kids who are going on to become better athletes may have to do the same thing! Don't cause them to miss such and important event!!
It's sad that they cannot keep graduation the same it has been. I hope they know many students will NOT be there to walk considering almost all will be on vacation. ALL other schools in the county graduate the 9th and 10th.
If your kids were graduating this wouldn't be an option.. Change it back!

As grandparent of a 2017 Graduate, I looked forward to being at NSHS, but this date change decision causes real conflict & problems with my summer plans which include commitments involving a good deal of money. Please change the date back and help me to attend.
