The Minister has confirmed that funding for a new facility in Miramichi is now officially included in the upcoming capital budget. We will be reviewing the site selection documents next week to ensure the project timeline remains on track.

I believe once again that the french speaking communities have been given preference over Miramichi - the Mount Saint Joseph Nursing home is not fit, yet we are not given a new nursing and yet this morning our neighbouring french speaking community of Neguac has announced they have been given funding for a brand new facility to open in Fall 2015. Does no hot water, no a/c, and all the other unhealthy, unsanitary conditions of our current nursing home not demonstrate there is a need here??? something is wrong with whoever is making the decisions.
A nursing home has been needed in our area for many years. Fixing up the old one is just a bandaid but still better than nothing. We are in desperate need as we have an aging population in Miramichi. Time to work on this issue now!
I do not understand how in an area with such an aging population, given that we are trying to attract elderly people to "Retirement Miramichi", could not have the foresight to increase nursing home availability. It simply makes no sense.
we sure do a new nursing home. My mother is presently in hospital waiting for a room in a home. It is not fair to her and the many other patients that are waiting, and some of these patients have been on a waiting list for many years, I spoke to one ladies family and was told that their mother has been in this hospital for 4 yrs waiting. It is a shame that our elderly are being treated like this and while in the hospital my mother has been moved to different rooms 11 times so far and that is in a 4 month period since she entered the hospital, she keeps getting shuffled around and it is not fair to her or any other patient
I was told we are not getting a nursing home because it would be empty in 20 years,and that we should stay in our homes as long as possible with help from our families or other source..Miramichi is over populated with seinors,and a lot have no families nearby.We need several nursing homes now.
The aging population is growing... Present nursing homes need upgrading ,and many more beds are needed.
We are in desperate need of a new nursing home. It needs to be bigger as well.

I have worked several years as a caregiver at a nursing home. There was always a long waiting list for families to get their love ones in our nursing home. It's the same at all Nursing Home. We need more Special Care Homes and Nursing Homes. Just take a look at all the Seniors in our local hospital waiting to get into a Nursing Home. There are many more out there in need in our neighorhoods !
