Like the Covered Bridge, the Clock Tower and Pepi’s Porch, whose images, popularity, recognition and fame have grown to Iconic proportions as the symbols known truly as “Vail”, so, to, has a local entertainer, Micky Poage. For over 35 years he has become a part of the heart and soul which makes Vail the world-class destination it is. Yet, Vail is possibly about to lose this “institution”. Micky has enthralled audiences at the keyboard behind his grand piano at Mickey’s Bar in The Lodge at Vail for over three decades. His eclectic style, endless repertoire and inspiring melodies, but most of all his open-hearted warmth for all who have seen him play; have touched the hearts of visitors who return year after year. This tiny bar has been transformed through the years into an establishment found nowhere else in the Country, possibly the World. Attracting celebrities to locals alike, patrons are treated to talent usually reserved for the concert stage, yet they feel at home when Micky plays “their song” mingled amongst collections varying from Classical to Broadway to Pop. Many patrons claim they have traveled the World and have never found a similar spot. Memories are made in this room. The Lodge at Vail is possibly about to bring this tradition to a close. A steakhouse is proposed to replace this one-of-a-kind establishment. Like removing the Oak Room from the Plaza, or the Tavern from The Broadmoor, Mickey’s Bar is such a historical part of true “Vail”, it’s loss will certainly rip out the “heart” of the Lodge and a piece of the Town of Vail’s soul will be changed forever. Please add your signature to this petition to show your appreciation for what Micky has brought to Vail and what the Town and The Lodge at Vail will lose when & if Micky closes that piano lid for a final time. Thank you for your support.
The quiet behind the scenes is heavy because I am spending my time tracking down the right people to listen to why this venue must stay. It is exhausting to fight against the tide when they clearly see this space as just another floor plan rather than the home Micky built for us.

Seeing this kind of movement confirms that so many of you understand the gravity of losing such a piece of our history. My head is heavy with the exhaustion of this fight but your dedication gives me the strength to push for another day.

I have been coming to Vail since the 80s and Micky is the heart of the village. PLEASE dont do this, it would be a huge mistake for the town.
