This petition allows current Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan insurance holders (including Community Blue network) to indicate their desire to have Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) included as independent mental health professionals covered by BCBSM. Michigan is one of a few states in which Blue Cross Blue Shield does not recognize LPC's among their options of independent mental health professionals. Therefore, if you are currently a Blue Cross and Blue Shield customer or an employer offering BCBSM health care policies and would like to have LPC's included in your mental health provider options, please sign the petition.

Blue Cross Blue Shield can no longer ignore the thousands of us demanding real access to mental health care. This momentum proves they are failing their members by blocking LPCs from their network.

As an LPC our training is equally, if not more, rigorous as an LMSW. Restricting LPCs is move based on old politics and policies. There are so many people that need mental health care. Let them have the freedom to choose the best therapist for them.

I have served as a counselor for the past 20 years, in the states of Michigan and Ohio. The recognition of Licensed Professional Counselors is trained and skilled professionals by insurance agencies is long overdue. Therefore, as a Blue Cross member, I support this movement.

It is definitely money driven and BCBS has a huge political stronghold in Michigan. Ironic how BCBS allows LPC's in other states to be on their panels... Why not Michigan.? Politics and money, period...

I have earned a PhD in counseling and have worked in the field for 24 years. My qualifications are equal to any other mental health professional. The training of Licensed Professional Counselors is comprehensive and exceeds what is expected of MSW and LLP providers. The practice of BCBS is discrimination.

It is true, BCBS accepts and allows LPC's credentialing as independent providers in each state, besides Michigan. I agree, the political powers within Michigan need to address this issue.

I have received services from two LPC's and found them to be far more helpful and just as knowledgeable as any psychiatrist or psychologist. In addition, having access to LPC's will broaden the availability of services to individuals who may not have a psychiatrist or psychologist readily accessible.

It is time to stop the discrimination and allow us to do the work we do so well.
