This Petition is regarding the unused land in the middle of the Melsome Road Estate, Lyneham, Chippenham.
The land in question looks to be a former children’s playground but over the years has fallen into disuse, as shown in the images below. It is now fenced off from the public. The surrounding bushes have become overgrown, infested with thorn/bramble trees and are now encroaching into resident’s gardens. The land has been used for “fly-tipping” and I now fear has been infested with rats among other wildlife.
Our plan is to see funding from the Defence Infrastructure Organisation released to Carillion Amey (Regional Prime and National Housing contractors for the MOD) used to clear the area completely, to create a safe communal area for the residents of Melsome Road Estate and the wider Lyneham village community.
Although this has been previously highlighted to DIO a number of times, the work has not been granted the funding needed. I plan on re-opening this case and seeing it to completion. In order to achieve this I have requested the support of our local MP and also request the support of the local community (YOU).

I spent the afternoon walking around the fence line and the overgrown brambles are now pushing further into the gardens than they were last month. The Defence Infrastructure Organisation still has not replied to my latest inquiry but I am preparing a follow up to keep the pressure on them.

Seeing this kind of movement makes me feel like we might finally fix this mess of a playground. I look out at that overgrown land every day and it means the world to know so many of you want a clean space for our families too.

There is insufficient parking on the Melsome estate which is causing an issue with people parking on pavements on either side of the roads. This will cause problems for emergency services should the need arise for them to assist residents. The area could provide additional parking for residents to prevent access being restricted.
I used to love going to this playpark, and once it was closed off around 2006 time, it quickly deteriorated into the state it’s now in as a result of lack of work and youths vandalising it. I’m glad to see something finally beginning to happen with it, and would rather it become something for the newer generation to enjoy in the years to come than for it to just be torn down and that be the end of it.
I love directly across from this old abandoned park. On numerous occasions I have had a rat/s in my garden. I'm happy to sign.
I live on melsome close to this space. It would be lovely to have a play park for younger children as the little play area on melsome at the moment is aimed more to the older children. There is nothin on melsome for smaller children,
we live behind this and constantly have to cut the brambles back which makes it unsafe for our children to play in if we don't cut it back
There needs to be more parking on that estate, their is playparks in the local area for the families to utilise.
We need play communual areas for people to meet , such a waste to leave to get overgrown

Would be good to transform the area and locals can help do the work to achieve it. Working together as a community would be good and to the benefit of all.
