PETITION SUMMARY
Mutton Reserve Playground is extensively used by the Fawkner and neighbouring communities as a recreational meeting place, and by families attending sporting activities/events at Mutton Reserve. It is possibly the most congested Adventure Playground in Fawkner, Melbourne.
Teaming with children from 6pm till about 9pm in dry weather, many parents - particularly mothers of various ethnic communities - unite for respite, exercise and to socialise.
The playground does not meet user capacity, with up to 40 people attending the space in good weather. Children and adults spill over into the oval or congregate onthe grass for lack of appropriate design and seating.
The adventure park is unsuitable to support the various age groups of the children, is in poorly maintained condition and outdated. There are several inadequate facilities to support the space and safety issues that need to be addressed.
ACTION PETITIONED FOR
⮚ Playground upgrade & expansion to lawn along tennis courts
⮚ Oval path relocated - to merge play area & lawn
⮚ Sunshades & rain shelter
⮚ More seating, tables & extra drinking fountain
⮚ Adequate signage requesting dogs on lead
⮚ More bins: recycling/waste (design – dumping & odour consideration)
⮚ Bike racks, gym equipment & activity wall/mural
⮚ Toilet block upgrade/maintenance & access to all toilets
⮚ Pedestrian crossing & concrete footpath (tennis court side)
⮚ Carpark safety barrier & repair tennis court fence

The local council continues to ignore the dangerous state of Mutton Reserve while families remain crammed into a space that is falling apart. I am forcing this issue into their next meeting because they think they can just wait for us to stop complaining.

The momentum we have built makes it impossible for the local council to keep ignoring the dangerous conditions at Mutton Reserve. This surge in support proves families are fed up with outdated equipment and broken facilities. We are forcing them to pay attention now.

I have a 1.5 year old son and he is unable to play at any park in Fawkner during summer due to no parks having any proper shade or shelter. Playground equipment is too hot for an adult to touch! It’s quite sad walking around and seeing deserted and outdated parks everywhere in Fawkner. The people of Fawkner need something special!
Toilets there are disgusting and unusable. That park is used by so many people that is becomes too packed! Needs a big upgrade.
Shade is desperately needed at this playground. Also, a drinking fountain with dog water bowl positioned further from the playground, on another side of the oval, would prevent dogs from running to the area where children play.
There’s a desperate need for shade and lots of opportunities for improvements. I wonder was the usage data on this playground measured in business hours. The really busy usage is definitely after dinner, which might be partly due to the lack of shading.
The location is good for us as it is only a 2 minute walk; however, we usually don't spend much time there as the kids (3 and 5) are not enganged like they are at other parks where we have to drive too (mostly outside the council area).
I’m in full support of all highlighted points. This park needs considerable attention.
I support where it is needed.

I strongly support this petition and believe we need major upgrades to these playground facilities for not only safety but the quality and ability for our children to enjoy the equipment without the community feeling they need to go outside our area to other better playgrounds in Coburg or Brunswick. Our community really needs this upgrade!!!
