Two summers ago, my family had bought two chickens to provide us with fresh eggs every morning. Unfortunately, in the city of McHenry, chickens are not legal (even if they live in a small coop) and we were forced to get rid of them or we would be fined. Ever since then we have wanted to purchase more but we knew we would be forced to get rid of them once again. But why? As many people do not know, chickens do not make any noise. They are much, much quieter than any dog. Backyard chickens have no negative effects in neighborhoods whatsoever so why must they be illegal in McHenry? Backyard chickens can only benefit by providing the owners with fresh eggs, fertilized gardens, and even little companions.
