We, the citizens of Rockford Illinois, petition the city to allow urban chickens to be raised within the city limits. Chickens offer a wide variety of benefits such as providing a nutritious food source, be it eggs or poultry, insect control, composting material for gardeners. It is our right as free peoples to pursue more environmentally friendly sources of food and sustainability this would be a big step in the right direction. Not only are Chickens very useful around the homestead they are just as easily kept as dogs or cats. Raising chickens can also help teach children about responsibility by completing the daily tasks of feeding and coop maintenance. We are not asking for Roosters who act as living alarm clocks but their quiet counterpart who can make no more noise than a barking dog. Please Reconsider rewriting your ordinance against urban hens in Rockford.
