As a citizen of Greendale I believe we should be able to have chickens. Greendale calls itself a "Garden Community" and I think chickens are a big part of the garden circle. They eat all the pests in your garden like ants and beetles to make sure that your plants are healthy. Their poop is also a very good fertilizer that would keep your garden healthier and your plants growing.

Of course we would not be looking to butcher them, instead, we would be looking to have them as pets. I can’t have a pet with fur because of my moms allergies so chickens are a great option for our family and maybe others. Not to mention we could still get eggs without a noisy rooster. Hens aren’t very loud either, for sure not louder than your dog barking or the birds chirping outside. Chickens don’t have teeth either so they wouldn’t be able bite you or give you rabies.

Chickens are also very interesting and funny to watch. It would be a great learning experience for you and a great family pet. Many urban areas already allow backyard chickens including Wauwatosa, Bayview, Milwaukee, Cudahy, Fox Point, Mequon, River Hills, and many more. This summer would also be the perfect time for Greendale to change the ordinances to let people have pet chickens.

The Village Board tried to ignore us but this momentum is getting impossible for them to brush aside. They think we will just go away if they stay silent but they are dead wrong.

With changing economic conditions, I feel the Greendale residence should be able to get a permit to have up to four chickens on their property. This is in line with the city of Milwaukee ordinance.

Chickens are self-sustaining, provide organic eggs, good fertilizer, great pets control, teach responsibility to your children, entertaining. You do not need a rooster to get eggs. Yes, they do require work, which is up to each individual homeowner. Freedom to choose.

Would LOVE to have chickens here. Franklin, hales corners both allow them so why not here? Our 1927 farmhouse still has the original coop in back, we use it as the tool shed right now but would really like to turn it back to its intended purpose.

Think a limit dictated by the size of a persons lot and no male (Roosters) chickens would be fine.

Bring on the chickens! I would however point out the constant barrage of coyote posts. Keep that in mind when deciding to raise them. Keep em’ safe

Greendale has prided itself in being the Garden Community and was originally a farming community. Almost all of our neighboring communities allow chickens

We would love to keep hens as pets. Since other cities allow them, we kindly ask that we be given the same opportunity.
