Vehicular traffic along Leather Lane not only harms the atmosphere of the market, but it also represents a severe health and safety risk for the market traders and shoppers alike. The people that work and visit the historic Leather Lane Market should be protected from vehicles passing through it by a road closure along this street.
We believe that rise-and-fall bollards and "Cyclists Dismount" signs on all streets that access Leather Lane are essential to make it a pleasant public space for pedestrians, and to stop through-traffic and the risk to public safety that it represents.
Rise-and-fall bollards are a simple way to ensure that market traders' vehicles can access the site in the mornings and afternoons, whilst preventing traffic during the day, as well as recognising Leather Lane as an important public realm. These bollards can be easily administered by the market inspector.
Ensure Leather Lane is a quality public space, and don't put the traders and the public at risk - stop the traffic, and install the bollards to close the road before there is a serious accident.

I was just watching a delivery van squeeze way too close to a fruit stand and it reminded me why I started this whole thing in the first place because honestly it feels like a total miracle that nobody has gotten properly hurt yet. I have been trying to get a straight answer from someone at the council office but they just keep passing me from one desk to another while the traffic keeps rolling right through our market space.

I was checking the site this morning and it is just wild seeing how many people actually want these bollards installed. It makes me think about all those times I have nearly been clipped by a van while grabbing lunch and honestly it feels like we are finally getting somewhere with the council.

Do it. Make it walkable. Market is way better without cars everywhere.
Its terrifying trying to walk through there during lunch with vans speeding through. Just waiting for someone to get hit.
