Update: The council have now stated on their Facebook page that the bollards will be moved in a few days. We do still have concerns about the proposed plans for Corporation Street being made into a single lane. The deliveries for the bars, cafes and shops often take time and will completely block the road causing congestion at the crossroads at Trinity Street. Please continue to share this petition, we need more discussion and better communication of the plans. Good pavements and roads that are safe and functional and look good are important but we need the powers that be to be aware of the practicality and safety implications. Thanks
Businesses in Stalybridge, particularly on Corporation Street and Melbourne Street are concerned about the current road closure at Castle St/Melbourne St and the proposed changes to Corporation Street. All signatories of this petition believe that the changes will affect businesses directly, create more traffic congestion and potentially be harmful to the town centre economy. The signatories are expressing their concerns to the council and the levelling up team by way of signing this petition and would appreciate a review of the proposed planned works.

The road closure as affected cancer research. Over the last 2 weeks the town as suffered badly with no footfall. Due to roads being closed.
I use a mobility scooter and since the closure came into existence, cars have seemingly become more impatient and dangerous as they are rushing to get past the closure. I've also noticed a dramatic drop in footfall around the area too. Open the bloody road!
There are several businesses on corporation Street and we struggle for our delivery's as it is. I have a public house there and our delivery drivers would need parking as our kegs are very heavy.
All it's done is cause more illegal parking on the bottom end of Melbourne street and increased traffic on Acres Lane.
I have concerns about the congestion new proposals will cause to the traffic flow and the danger this will pose to the many children around the street due to the nature of my business.
Who’s idea was this ? and what’s more, do you shop in Stalybridge?
I think the decision to close the road is completely unacceptable. What are the basis for this decision?
