Recently there has been an influx of people wanting to change our Athletic Name. Many who are not residents of Indianola, nor attending/attended Indianola students.

A majority of tax paying residents and the panel of Resident Native Americans have been pushing to maintain our hometown pride. People from the outside are pushing for an unwanted and unnecessary change.

Please sign this petition if you would push the continuance of our proud Indianola Indians and our community Tribe! After all, every community should strive to be just that... a TRIBE like ours!

We just hit 500 signatures and I am honestly reeling because this town really shows up when it matters. I spent all morning reading your comments and it honestly feels like our actual Indianola community is finally getting the recognition it deserves after so much outside noise.

Representation is all anyone wants so what do we do, take the small amount of representation that native Americans get in a country that is truly theirs, and get rid of it. I have 10% souix Indian and I feel like we deserve more representation not less.

I have a Native American blood line. I also have many friends who live here and are registered as Native Americans. I’ve lived here all my life and am proud to be a Indianola Indian!

I grew up in this town and still live in this town. My whole family including my parents played sports as an Indian. My nieces and nephews are proudly playing as Indians today. We always have been and always will be an Indian. Nothing should change.

I am a Simpson Alum and was heartbroken when the college changed it’s mascot name from the Redskins to Storms! I am a former coach and my husband is an alum of the Indianola Indians! Keep the Indians!

This is action is nothing more than showing that the voice of the people is silenced by those in power. A handful of people were able to dictate the representation of an entire community.

Change is OK but let's not change so much that we lose the historical identity of our community
