The austerity measures of the government has meant that the college has had a funding reduction in its work with adults of 24% which equates to £3.7M for Telford College. Due to this reduction in funding, it is likely that the BSL courses will be discontinued. This will only have a negative affect on the local deaf community, less people learning BSL means less people training to be interpreters, it means less people are deaf AWARE.

The BSL courses run at TCAT not only teaches the basics of sign language, it gives an opportunity to learn about the deaf world and an insight in to deaf culture.

Please help keep BSL at TCAT, show your support by signing this petition.

Losing BSL as a course would be a clear message that those who exist in the deaf world are of no value at all. BSL is a very important course; TCAT has an amazing teacher; and the worth of TCAT will be measured by whether they keep or stop the BSL courses.

One of the best courses I have been on and brings awareness to an issue many wouldn't consider day to day. BSL needs to be taught somewhere since it isn't taught as part of a national curriculum so don't scrap it!

BSL is a language like any other, for some their sole language. Sign language classes provide a vital link between the hearing and deaf communities, reducing the isolation (and its potential consequences) of those with severely limited hearing.

As a parent of 2 deaf children I know how vital this course is. Everyone should have the right to communication, we can not lose this course.

BSL is vital in providing hearing impaired people, like myself, a means of communicating in the hearing world. It is important that the opportunity to learn BSL at TCAT is not lost.
