SAVE YOUR LEARNING CENTRE IN NORBURY

UfI our national funding body has announced that they intend to withdraw funding to our Centre for Learndirect courses for academic year  2011/2012. This is devastating news for the learning community in Norbury and the surrounding areas of Crystal Palace, Thornton Heath, Norwood, Mitcham, Streatham and beyond.
What does this mean for the community around Norbury and South London?
It means that we will be unable to provide  South London communities with the opportunity of learning the basic skills  necessary to gain employment. For the past ten years Best Training has served the people of North Croydon and beyond with a quality service. Over 1000 test passes in maths and English, 650 computer test passes, over 1200 qualifications whilst achieving 95% success rate and 91% timely (getting learners to complete and achieve by the agreed date)  in 2010/2011. Best Training continues to widen participation working in partnership with schools, libraries, Job Centres and local businesses supported by professionally qualified and committed staff.

What can you do?

The impact of this decision is that Best Training will be unable to offer the  quality of learning so desired by members of the community and the lack of opportunity of another chance to succeed. The relaxed and flexible learning environment with the persistence, encouragement and motivation of dedicated staff will no longer exist.  It is currently lodging an appeal and we would like to count on your support for Best Training to secure the funds to deliver to you a continued quality service. The course of action we have taken is to raise this petition and gather as many signatures as possible; from family members, friends, colleagues and neighbours and to display learner power as expressed by the current government in the Big Society and to show that learner interests are first and foremost. It is a chance to have your say!!

 What else can you do?

Other courses of action would be to write letters of your positive experiences whilst learning with Best Training, Norbury to:- UfI ~(University for Industry, Dearing House 1 Young Street Sheffield S1 4UP), local newspapers, your local councillor, MP's to express your dismay and dissatisfaction that a quality provider in North Croydon has its potential to develop and grow stymied. Thank you in anticipation of your support.

This place helped me get my confidence back when I was struggling to find work. Closing it is a huge mistake for Norbury.

Total incompetence from the top. Trying to save money but ruining people's futures in the process.

SHAME ON YOU for taking away funding from people just trying to improve their skills and get a job.
