On Monday August 1st, 2016 members of Boxing Ontario were informed that there was to be an "emergency" meeting called by Directors Deborah Wong, Olga Heron, & Sean Yacoub for Wednesday August 3rd 2016 with the only agenda item being the removal of current President Mike Power.
Though our constitution allows for this type of special resolution, we are gravely concerned about the secretive methods and lack of proof that would result in a 2/3 majority of directors passing this motion. As members of Boxing Ontario we are not in support of this special resolution nor will we respect it's outcome.
Removal of our President (a President we elected) without our knowledge and without being provided any reasons or evidence is incredibly disturbing and we demand that those who have come forward with these accusations (Deb Wong, Olga Heron, and Sean Yacoub) submit irrefutable evidence or step down from their positions immediately.
- We are asking for an email outlining in detail the current issues from both sides informing all boxing clubs of the current situation.
- We would like the accusations clearly stated and each one supported by physical evidence that proves the accusations to be true and what intermediate actions where taken to address these concerns along the way.
- We also would like to know what other options were explored aside from removal
We are 100% against any "emergency" meeting being called and 100% against any change in our leadership without being consulted and advised of the issues at hand. Please note that conducting the above planned meeting and removing Mike Power from the presidency will jeopardize the population and trust of your members and you will risk losing us.
Don't let politics take your organization away from you. As members we should have a say in what happens!!

I have been hearing from club owners across the province who feel just as blindsided by these backroom maneuvers as I do. We are demanding full transparency because the future of our sport depends on the integrity of our leadership.

It is clear that the lack of transparency from these directors has awakened a group of people who are no longer willing to stay silent about their own organization. As a member in good standing for 34 years I demand a meeting be called of the membership so that we the dues paying members can have a say in the proceedings. The membership has not been consulted and although allowed in the rules I protest how it is being done.
I have been in this sport for 12 years, i have seen and heard many things but Mike Power has been a tredmendous president. Why try removing him with less than half of his term left? Why waste money on a lawyer when you can INVEST in your ATHLETES? Let him finish
As a members of boxing Ontario we voted our president in . In the past when we were unhappy with what the President was doing we as members voted him or her out . I don't want 3 people that are on the board, that we didn't vote in making choices for us . We as members, when give all the facts can make that choice .
The members are stakeholders in this organization too..We would like details of this motion and the reasoning behind this action. Is there an appeals process etc. Why can this not be heard at the fast approaching AGM???
This is another sad day for Boxing Ontario. Ther are good people on that Board of Directors and a good President. I was Vice President of Boxing Ontario. Once I began to listen and speak out for the clubs, coaches, and the competitors I was removed. If they are able to put this one off again Boxing Ontario is no better than the OBA...... Shame!

I don't usually want to get involved with provincial politics but this one is too much. We need to respect our democratic process. Due process will need to be observed. An elected official should not be removed unless he/she has done egregious acts so profound that they threaten the immediate existence of the organization. Boxing Ontario board of directors or at least the three of them need to learn something about transparency. Doctors will not support an organization shrouded in secrecy. If there are issues, then start an open dialogue. If you don't like what Mike Power is doing, well, you elected him. And his term has an end. So stop this nonsense please or the doctors will start a petition to boycott covering for Boxing Ontario events. Dr. Trinh

I came across this and have no idea what it's about, but as a physician just getting involved in medical coverage for boxing, my experience with Mike has been nothing but positive. He is extremely professional, and his passion for the sport shines through. Hopefully any issues can get resolved in a fair and democratic process.
