Barnardo's are closing the charity shop in Bushmead. We would like to see it remain open as it is an important part of the community. Over the last year the new manger has made the shop vibrant, relevant to the area and increased turnover.

It gives local people a chance to purchase items which they may find difficult to buy new due to financial constraints. It provides an opportunity to recycle and reuse therefore benefiting the environment. It also raises local awareness of the Charity and is a social hub for locals, many of whom cannot travel to the town centre.

We also want the jobs of those working there protected. As a large charity we believe Barnardo's could give the shop a chance to keep making a profit.

Updates

We just hit 250 signatures and Barnardo's executives better start listening to this community. They are trying to gut our local hub while ignoring the vibrant profit growth we actually achieved. This momentum proves they cannot simply abandon Bushmead without a fight.

The corporate suits at Barnardo's are finally starting to feel the heat because this momentum is impossible to ignore. They thought they could shutter our shop without a fight, but this response proves they were dead wrong.

It’s a lovely organised shop with fantastic staff especially the manager, people rely on second hand goods heavily in this economy, it would be a real loss to the Bushmead community especially the elderly and parents to youngsters.

Sue, the excellent manager has completely transformed this shop into a vibrantly welcoming place. Why can Barnardo's not recognise the performance of the shop over the last 12 months instead of it's trading history under previous mismanagement.

I have visited the shop only twice just out of curiosity when was shopping at co-op and I must admit it's much more than just one of the charity shops. I witnessed people talking to each other about local community matters, laughing together, people simply enjoying each other, very welcoming first of all.

This is a great location for a charity shop! Local Co-Op, hair salon, newsagent, pharmacy, all drawing in the local community to the parade of shops and the convenience of donating/purchasing.
