Sign to keep our confederate monument in downtown Morganton where it's been for over 100 years. The world is making such a big deal over steel and concrete structures that have stood for years and is a part of history whether you like it or not. Our statue was erected before most any of us were around or though of. It's an icon and a part of Burke County. I'm surprised the town would consider removing it. It's not hurting anyone or you. If it hurts then read your history. Leave it be and let it stand.

I may live out west in Oregon, but this monument means a lot to me... I had ancestors on both sides during this war and they both fought for their country!! It is my Heritage that they be remembered. Thank you.
I think it should stay because it has never caused any problems in the past. It's not about hate . A small group of people are offended by it's presence . That is like erasing history and acting like it never happened.
I have lived here all my life and never do I recall there ever being a problem with it, from ANYONE! Whose idea was this, who introduced this silly notion? Are they even from Morganton, hell, are they even from the South? Leave our history alone, it belongs to ALL of us, black and white
History should not be a reason to be offended.. it HAPPENED.....And a lot of people are jumping on this band wagon for PERSONAL gains or only for ATTENTION.. Another question is..why did it take 150 years to get offensive???? Leave history alone and let our future learn from it...
This is a silent memorial to the men of Burke County of all races who served their state when it called them to defend her borders for a foreign invader. It has no political agenda like some people are making it out to be. Please leave it be.
Has racism ended in the few places where statues have been removed?
Confederate statues/monuments and confederate flags represent history and heritage. It’s disgusting that right wing extremists are using the confederate flag to further their agenda of hate.

As a proud descendent of an English born Confederate soldier I protest most strongly any attempt to remove or relocate any monument, flag or marker erected to the memory of any civil war veteran or soldiers.
