Halloween on Montclair Ave has become a community tradition! We, the residents of Montclair Ave, are excited to host this special event! Last year, there were over 3000 Trick-or-Treaters, plus parents and younger kids.

We want the night to be safe and fun for everyone! Neighboring communities close their "Halloween Streets" to traffic--and we feel that Montclair should do the same.

We have explored ways to address this with the Township for the past three years, asking them to close the street to traffic. The Traffic Bureau responded to our most recent request by stating that street closures after dark require police presence and they don't have the budget.

We respectfully request that the Township revisit this issue and take responsibility for assuring pedestrian safety before a tragedy occurs.

The level of community support for this initiative has surpassed my initial expectations. This momentum confirms that residents prioritize pedestrian safety on Montclair Avenue. Our collective focus now shifts toward ensuring the Township hears this message clearly.

Montclair will be wise to act on this for everyone's safety. Darkness, hoards of kids in costumes, and cars do not mix. As a Montclair Ave resident, we welcome around 1,000 young visitors to our door. This yearly event needs safety precautions like any other large community happening.... and on Halloween, Montclair Ave is HAPPENING!

I gave out 900 pieces of candy by 7 o'clock --kids zigzagging across the street constantly . Closing the street to cars is a no-brainer.

Please close traffic on Halloween to support safety on our street! I've had a few too many close calls with children visiting our home and my own family visiting our neighbors on Halloween night!

Montclair Ave has become a Mecca for children of all ages. Last year I gave out 300 pieces of candy in 1 hour. There is far too much congestion on this street for children to be safe with cars coming down the street at all levels of speed. Please do block off between the top of Montclair Ave down to Label Street.

I attended a ward meeting last year asking for Montclair Avenue to be closed on Halloween night. The police had no idea that we have literally 1,000 kids or more trick or treating on our street, but nothing was done.

Keeping kids safe has to be at least (more?!) as important as guarding road workers and PSEG/utility workers. Perhaps the police budget could be revisited?

There is no reason for this street to be open to drivers during peak trick-or-treating hours. So many families and children pass through, it's better attended than most festivals in town.
