Some of you might know that Jon Morgan was made redundant at the end of last semester, meaning that he will not be teaching at Exeter in the foreseeable future. I think that anyone who did his and Louise's 'Bible: Past and Present' module last term will know just how great a loss this will be to the department because Jon is always just so friendly and will never hesitate on offering help or advice to students. If you would like to contribute to our appeal to his redundancy, we would really appreciate you signing this petition (which will then be sent to the University).

Also, on a more practical point, please don't worry if it says 'United States' underneath your name once you have signed. This platform is tailored more towards those in the US and this is the default setting.

Updates

January 21, 2019

I have been hearing so many stories from you about how much Jon helped during his time at Exeter. It has been overwhelming to see how many people felt the same way I did about his teaching. I am currently reaching out to the department to ensure they see these messages.

Jon and Louise’s ‘Bible: Past and Present’ module was the most engaging and rewarding module I studied in my first year. It has informed all of my subsequent module choices and even influenced my dissertation topic. Jon was so friendly and down to earth as a lecturer, this decision is devastating.

Jon is a wonderful lecturer who is hugely supportive. I loved his Bible and Film module last year. His enthusiasm and compassion for the students here is incredible. We cannot see him go. It makes me question, where are our fees going if they cannot pay for one of our lecturers to stay? This isn’t fair.

I had the pleasure of being taught by Jon last year and he was a wonderful lecturer. His lectures were so engaging and you could tell he really cared about his students from how friendly he was to all. I went to see him as I was struggling with one of my essays and he couldn’t have been more helpful, giving advice, notes and recommended reading to help. He is a huge loss to the department and should be brought back as soon as possible.

Jon was the best lecturer I had during my whole four years in Exeter. He adds HUGE value to the department and the university.

A great member of the theology department who was instrumental in making my transition from home to university a pleasant one. The department is weaker without him.
