Kids, teachers and parents need the summer to recuperate and regenerate, as well as to enjoy activities in the real world. Most kids do not thrive in a locked down classroom environment...when are schools going to figure that out. I'm a former teacher by the way.
I am all about our kids learning but the kids need to travel and see the world!! When do the families have time to travel when school starts in August. Kids learn from books but remember and learn more from hand on adventures
When I went to school we didn't start until after Labor day. The reason I remember so well is because pools would stay open until after labor day and close when school started. It seems like school is out and then it starts right back up again.
Too early!! Already our students norrmally miss KY Fair & have shorter & shorter summers!! If this is educationally necessary, go to year round school in all of JCPS!! Oh and let's let our Teachets teach! Paperwork can be completed by Teacher's Aides!!!
I am a teacher for JCPS. I plan and prepare over the summer. We need more time to plan with our GCC and PLC prior to school starting. I recommended that the start date be moved to later in August as well if not September!

What happened to stating school after memorial day and last day before Labor Day .

My kids will be missing some days because I'll take them out a week . Our families live out of state & we go to the Mountains every year & we book our room the same time every year . Family time is important too !!!
