We, the undersigned parents, guardians, and educators within the Manatee County School District respectfully ask that you do not implement the 2015 - 2016 school calendar that was proposed on April 14, 2015. We agree that there is a benefit to the changes that you proposed; however, we ask that you implement those changes for the 2016 - 2017 school year instead.
A great deal of families have made non-refundable vacation plans and crucial medical appointments during the first 16 - 23 days of August 2015. Implementing this change would cause numerous student and teacher absences during the first two weeks of school. Our teachers pride themselves on returning to school refreshed, recharged, and ready to give their all to their students. Families use this time to reconnect and prepare for a new rigorous school year. This change would cause an unfortunate amount of stress right out of the gate for a new school year.

The volume of support moving behind this request has prompted a formal meeting with school board members to discuss the calendar proposal. I am currently finalizing a document outlining the specific scheduling conflicts for inclusion in those discussions. Please monitor this page for reports on the outcome of those talks.

I am a parent of Manatee County students in this calendar although it makes sense should be delayed. Starting next school year is just too soon and plans have already been made for many families. It will be a disruption to those that are there with new ones coming in if they miss the first week or two of school.Thank you for your consideration.
Braden River High schools Band camp got cut a week short due to this unexpected last minute change. I'm sure others schools will be affected as well.
do not make this change four months away, vacations plans are made and thousands have been spent to rent a home that is none refundable. This decision on our part was made based on your calendar which you put out. How many other families planned vacations will now be affected?
if the change is made, my daughter will miss a crucial band camp and all 4 of my kids will miss the first week of achool. that is wrong on every level. there is really only one answer, plan this for the following year.
Please consider this for the 2016-2017 school year. This is much too late to make this change effective in the 2015/2016 school year. Many families have already planned their summers, and if they cannot change plans, will miss the first weeks of school. This is not in any child's best interest. Though I agree with the changes, the timeline is just bad.
Please show us the same respect Sarasota County has shown it's staff, students, and parents.
Please reconsider the start date for this fall. Many families have already planned and paid for. A notice of the change would help families who have to make vacation requests in January.

We have already made summer plans that would be adversely effected by this change. This late proposal would not be in favor of students or familes this school year. Although it has benefits, it's late implemtaionion is more of a distraction than a positive influence at this point. Thank you for your considerstion.
