Many of the properties in Isla Vista are aged and weathered over time from the ocean air. Unsurprisingly, these old homes can break easily, have poor insulation and ventilation, etc. I know many students who have had extreme cases of black mold in their homes; when the residents contacted their leasing company Meridian Group, they failed to respond in a timely manner and didn’t send in an inspector for weeks.
In this petition I propose to pass a Santa Barbara county-wide mandate that if residents residing in Isla Vista file a complaint about black mold, leaks in the home, and other unsafe conditions, leasing companies must respond to the request within 24-48 hours.

About time someone looked into this. Landlords in IV treat students like trash because they know we don't have other options. Fix the houses!

Meridian is the worst. I lived in a place with a massive leak last year and it took them forever just to pick up the phone. My roommate got so sick from the mold it ruined our finals week.
