We, the undersigned, petition the Montana State Legislature to amend the following statutes under Title 70, Chapters 24 and 25 of the Montana Code Annotated (MCA). These amendments are designed to provide greater protections and fairness for tenants, ensure better living conditions, and clarify the responsibilities of landlords. The proposed changes address notice periods for entry, abandonment of premises, adoption of new rules, and the requirement for air conditioning during the summer months.

Summary of amendments

1. This amendment extends the notice period to 48 hours and limits non-emergency inspections to once every 30 days while allowing for exceptions in emergency or repair situations because we Montanas enjoy our privacy.

2. It should be considered wildly inappropriate for Montana to consider a rented property abandoned after 7 days of non-notice/ occupancy considering we Montanans value our privacy being forced to tell a company or corporations our location/plans if we are going to be gone for only 7 days is unreasonable and inappropriate.

3. This amendment ensures that tenants are not subject to new or modified rules mid-lease unless they explicitly agree to the changes, or sign a new lease/rental agreement, Because when is it ever ok to change the rules mid-game?

4. This amendment adds air conditioning as an essential service during the warmer months and defines the landlord's responsibility to maintain it. Montana gets just as hot in the summer as cold in the winter are we not worth the same respect and rights as we are in winter times.
