There are over 150 businesses operating from this road. Most of these businesses own cars, vans and other necessary vehicles – all required for the smooth operation of their businesses.

A serious problem has been identified by the businesses working on this road: Civilians living close to West Silvertown choose to park their personal vehicles on North Woolwich Road and travel by DLR leaving businesses with no space to park, although businesses should have priority parking in this area, considering it as a light industrial area.

In general circumstances, these commuters park their vehicles in the early hours of the morning, so when local business owners come to work, there is already no space for their cars. They end up parking on the other side of the road, a residential area, which causes concern for residents.

There is also an issue with double parking. Many Lorries that use this road are responsible for frequent congestion on the roads. To alleviate this issue, we are proposing a business permit scheme during working hours. This will be a two pronged approach enabling smoother running of businesses and also generate income for the council. We have discussed this with Mr. Stuart Welton from the council, who is currently aware of the traffic situation on the road as he visits the road often.

Furthermore, the condition of the road can at most times be deemed unacceptable, which is aggravated by the fact that there is no cleaning provision for the road. While we understand it is a commercial road with factories, it is our belief that a regular cleaning will aid in maintenance of the road and give the businesses a sense of responsibility to do their part.
