Many businesses in Oakwood Hill Industrial Estate have been severely affected by the parking conditions in the area. Most notably, by the Pay and Display parking on Oakwood Hill main road, but mostly with the yellow lines and business permits which have been enforced on the industrial estate itself. It is no secret that the massive over selling of the permits in relation to the number of spaces available has been extremely detrimental.

We have been writing to the relevant authorities and specifically asking them to reconsider the car park at the end of the road, which costs £10 per day. Because of this charge, the car park is virtually empty most days. We have been campaigning for the people who work in the immediate vicinity and who have already paid for their permits but can rarely find a space. We feel that they should be allowed to use this car park as an overflow and possibly even for a nominal (£2?) fee instead of the normal £10 per day. We honestly feel that this would be beneficial to all parties, including the authorities who would see revenues boosted.

We have already been in touch with our local Councillor, who has assured us he will put forward our points to the relevant committee when he is able to. We need to try and put a little bit of pressure on whoever can help, to give this important matter some real consideration.

Therefore, we have decided to start this petition which we would invite you all to sign it and add any supporting comments if you wish to.

Please do not share this petition on Facebook or Twitter or send it on to any other parties.

Updates

March 5, 2019

I have finalized a formal request detailing the permit overselling issue for the council committee. This document is now under review by our local representative before it reaches the transport department. Expect an update once they provide a firm timeline for a hearing.

The car park should be free to people who have already paid for an annual permit, and as the people who are responsible for over selling the permits in the first place could pay an annual/ Monthly fee to the owners of the car park out of the permit revenue to cover this, that way the car park owners are getting something back rather than having an empty car park.

I would be happy to pay an extra nominal fee of £2.00 per day on top of the permit to able to use the car park. The car park would then be used and generate income for the council rather than just costing it money to maintain when noone parks there

I work on this estate and concur parking is a nightmare, being able to use the empty car park for free, or a nominal fee would help massively. Plus its empty most of the time so isn't generating a great deal of income for the council, this could improve that.

The new parking restrictions and charges in and around Oakwood Hill Industrial Estate has caused disruption and chaos for our staff and visitors to our business. Too many permits have been issued and costs on the road and in the public car park are prohibitive to employment and health of the local businesses!

It's ridiculous that there is a totally empty car park with 30 spaces that has, maybe, one car in it a day when that one car could park on the road for £3 per day! Every day we have to fight over the spaces because of the oversold permits and park where we can at the risk of annoying the businesses in the estate!

I am a local employer and have 2 staff that drive to work each day. We have all committed to the annual business permit and yet are unable to use the parking slots which are too often used by passers by. Please support the business community in allowing us to park in the car parks without additional costs. We all have a living to make and supporting the local community is vital.

The car park should be made available to permit holders in order to help the local business community.

More needs to be done to support the businesses here, not the commuters
