We, the undersigned, request the City of Newport News Department of Engineering to remove the staging lane and a portion of the median that is built in the middle of Independence Blvd. in our community of Huntington. The median impedes us from making a left hand turn off Independence Blvd. onto Waltham Lane. We understand that it was designed, approved and built because of the “Future Commercial/Retail site” on the corner of Denbigh & Independence Blvd. and the need for a left-hand turn lane into the commercial site. However, commercial development of that site is likely to occur many years from now and, in the interim, it would be very convenient to have a median break at Waltham Lane to allow left turns off Independence. We understand that the median break may need to be closed in the future and the current configuration restored when the commercial parcel develops.

We have asked Mr. McMurran for his help in having a median break installed and he told us that it is not his decision. He did tell us he would install it at his cost if the City would approve the break. Accordingly, we ask you to take this under consideration and approve our request and allow the median break.
