- Petition for Raised Medians
Please help support residents of E. 69th Street in Bergen Beach, who are asking for the City to address the worsening traffic conditions along E. 69th Street between Avenue W and Avenue X. Key difficulties experienced by residents of E. 69th Street include the following:
• Frequent speeding causing an unsafe situation for a family neighborhood.
• Daily and nightly drag racing across both sides of the street and oncoming traffic.
• Excessive noise disturbance caused by increased traffic and speeding.
• Increased MatchPoint NYC visitors, creating double and triple parked cars.
• Illegal U-turns.
These issues have been worsening over years, and further inaction from the City is no longer acceptable. The residents of E. 69th Street have been vocal with their civic association, local police department, 311, D.O.T, etc. We are asking for the responsible parties to pursue raised medians.
We are hopeful that the raised medians will provide the following:
• Separate opposing streams of traffic and restrict turning movements (illegal U-turns).
• They can facilitate pedestrian crossings and improve pedestrian visibility to motorists. They can serve as a place of refuge for pedestrians/residents who cross the street midblock to get to their parked car.
• Slow motor vehicle speeds.
• Put an end to illegal double and triple parked cars.
• Stop cars from drag racing.
• A safer block for our children to play and for elderly to walk.
• Decrease accidents involving residents of E. 69th Street (pulling or backing out of their driveways) and drivers making illegal U-turns and or Speeding.
We, the undersigned affix our signature in support of the petition for raised medians on E. 69th Street.

The city keeps sending us in circles with their bureaucracy. I am exhausted by the deafening silence from the agencies that should be protecting our street. We keep pushing because the drag racing and the reckless driving outside our homes will not stop on its own.

The speeders are out of control on this block. someone is going to get hurt soon.
PLEASE fix this. its way to dangerous for my kids to play outside anymore.
