The state finally withdrew the proposal to remove the Jordan's Point Dam because so many of you spoke up to protect our river. I spent so many summers on these banks and I am relieved that we kept this landscape intact. We will stay vigilant in case this plan ever …

As many of you know the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries has recently purposed to pay for the removal of the Jordan's Point Dam. We believe this would greatly effect the Maury River. To all of those who frequently use to the river for swimming, tubing, kayaking/canoeing, fishing or stand-up paddle boarding, we believe that the removal the dam would effect all of these activities. Please sign this petition to help us save our beautiful Maury River and join us for the public hearing at Lylburn Downing Middle School on May 15th at 6pm.

Seeing five hundred names on this page feels surreal because this river has been my sanctuary for years. It is heartening to know so many of you value these waters just as much as I do.

I grew up swimming in this river and I cannot imagine losing the water levels we rely on. We need to hit one hundred signatures before the hearing so the board understands how much this community cares about the Maury.

Keep the dam! I return home every year for the soul purpose of floating and kayaking the river for time with family. I've recommended this to numerous out of town friends who have fallen in love with Rockbridge Co because of this. What a tragic thought to imagine a Rockbridge without the meandering Maury.

Please leave this alone! There are so many people that enjoy and use this area. We, The National Wild Turkey Federation has used this area this teach Kayaking! Why remove it. What's next? Remove the dam at lake Robertson to return it to a natural flow? What woudl be the attraction?

This proposed action is short-sighted and a misdirection. The Maury is a key feature of the outstanding quality of life in Rockbridge County and a major attraction to visitors. The Maury MUST be saved!

you want to remove one of the best and only spots by the river that our local youth has to enjoy? Goshen pass swinging bridge has already been taken out of the mix. and the boat lock is swarmed by not the best or most friendliest crowd for kids the majority of warm weather.

Removing the dam would ruin one of the best stretches of the Maury for boating, swimming and fishing. It would be a waste of resources and a detriment to the community. Leave the dam ALONE!

The "after" photo pictured here is from the White Salmon River in Washington state, which had a 125 ft tall dam (much larger than the one at JP) that held back a huge reservoir. This is not a fair picture to post for comparison.

This river is a just a vein of a much larger network we must protect. Let's think about more than ourselves please

I believe removing the dam would be a horrible mistake...one that can't be corrected....
