To Whom it May Concern:

During the spring season in Connecticut salmon and other migratory fish species come up the Naugatuck River in order to spawn and complete their life cycle. These migratory fish end up being blocked from access to the river while trying to accomplish this task. The Kinneytown Dam in Seymour CT is the cause to this major problem. The dam not only effects the fish but the ecosystem as well. My goal is to see the possible deconstruction of the Kinneytown Dam in order to help the ecosystem in the Naugatuck River and see the population of migratory fish species rise to what it was before. I hope to see change in the ecosystem of the Naugatuck River. All who sign this state our support for this action.

The Kinnneytown Dam fish bypass does not work. Many fish die at the bottom of the dam every year because of this. The dam makes negligible energy. If the owner of the dam can't comply with requirements to provide fish bypass that actually works, they should be compelled to remove the dam.

You do realize that the Kinneytown Dam was bypassed with a salmon ladder in 1999, don't you? This dam used to provide hydroelectricity for the nearby factories and is a part of Connecticut's history. It is now like the Naugatuck Dam, helping to prevent major flooding. Removing it wouldn't only put the nearby areas at a more significant risk for flooding than they are now, we'd also be losing history. This happens too much now, and there is no reason to remove the dam.

Benefits of dam are not justified. Please make the right choice for economic benefits and environmental changes caused by this old dam.

I do agree that action needs to be taken to protect our river, though. I used to go with my grandfather to clean the river with the Naugatuck River Revival Group. The go to the river's banks, and remove all sorts of litter from plastic shopping bags to broken washing machines and old washing machines. If you want to help, you should check them out!

This is very sad and I'd like the economy to be better. Poor fish. :(
