The Issue

My heart aches at the thought of losing the guiding hands and nurturing minds that have played such a crucial part in the collective growth of our community - the teachers and staff of our beloved San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD). The looming threat of layoffs dismays me. The prospect of their departure is personal to me and, I believe, to every student fortunate enough to learn and grow under their tutelage.

Despite the district ranking among the best in California for the last decade, teachers who have persistently dedicated themselves to molding inspired and empowered students face an uncertain future. In a district that boasts a 95% graduation rate and sends over 90% of its graduates to post-secondary education, it seems wildly counterintuitive to lay off those responsible for such exceptional performance (Source: California Department of Education).

Every teacher we stand to lose signifies a demotion of the unparalleled education standards that SRVUSD has proudly upheld over the years. I implore our representatives and key decision-makers to reconsider any layoffs and focus on preserving our collaborative educational environment. Let's collectively assert the importance of robust staffing in maintaining our district's renowned educational quality.
