We the undersigned, would ask the Ouray County Board of Commissioners to please pursue the USDOT grant or any available funds for improvements to roads for access to public lands to be used towards improvements to County Road 5 south of Highway 62 in Ouray County. All the undersigned live off of or own property or utilize access to ski, hike, bike, ride horses, hunt and enjoy activities accessed only by County Road 5 south of Highway 62 into the Uncompahgre National Forest. Hundreds of TOP users use this road. Also used for several weddings each season plus Telluride Academy and cross country skiers plus lots of toursts who drive up for the views.
I do not live up in Elk Meadows but am constantly driving up there to go hiking or skiing. The washboards are so bad, they have almost sent my truck skittering off the road. Not only is the condition of the road annoying, it is unsafe for those who live up there and those in town who utilize the public spaces. Thanks.
County road 5 in Ouray County Colorado is in much needed repair. The grading done periodically on the road turns to wash board in days after the work is done. Also the section on the hill just before county road 5A that the roads and bridges department added large rocks is very rough. This road is the cause of me having to buy new tires every year at the cost of $1670.00 each time.
The condition of this road is effecting our property values. Road and Bridge receives almost $2 million annually and this is the product we get? Unacceptable. The road can be dangerous, destroys our vehicles and effects our property values.
Washboard on this steep road is currently so bad it creates unsafe conditions, and vehicles are often in the oncoming lane in an attempt to avoid the rattling bumps. David
30 years of washboard have destroyed a driver side door and 2 u-joints. Appalling
Based on the amount of use, County Road 5 should be paved.

County Rd. 5 is in a constant state of disrepair. The increasing multi-modal use of it - walkers, runners, mtn. bikers, vehicles - makes it potentially dangerous. Also, those who drive it every day suffer extra repair expenses ranging from flat tires to major front-end work. I support Ouray County pursuing these grant monies to improve Co. Rd. 5 south of Ridgway.
