We, the undersigned residents of Santa Fe County living off of County Road 51 request that Santa Fe County repair the stretches of County Road 51 between 51C and Arroyo Salado which become treacherously dangerous and nearly impassible after heavy rains and melting snows many times each year.
We further request that Capital Request Number FY13-0112 be removed from the Capital Improvement Program database. This project calls for chip sealing 3 miles of County Road 51 from just below the El Dorado Wilderness Area parking lot to Arroyo Salado. While we do not want the road chip sealed we would support a Capital Request which would apply gravel or basecourse to the 1.7 mile stretch of County Road 51 from 51C to Arroyo Salado.

The sheer volume of support behind this campaign proves that Santa Fe County can no longer ignore this dangerous road. We have real momentum now and the bureaucrats in charge will have to answer for their neglect.

I would like to start by thanking you for stepping up the maintenance of the road. I am a mother of two and it has been some relief in raising them since you undertook CNTY RD 51 as a project. The intelligent engineering and base course that you already have applied to some areas of the road would work great in the remaining trouble spots. You are so close to making it a less dangerous road. There are only about three spots left that suck cars into the ditch. The first is the low area just after the powerlines, I have helped stranded drivers there multiple times. The second is the low land at the long straight away that bogs people down and the area past that near Arroyo salado gate. THanks again!
I support putting base course or equivalent on the bad spots as emergency vehicles would not make it up the road on a rainy day. Surfacing the road with chipseal or asphalt would make the road dangerous because of speeding, icing on the smooth surface and potholes would quickly appear as they do now in the lower section of the road. This would deface the rural character of the area and promote urbanization, overall burdening the County's budget.

It would be a huge relief to know that when it rains I don't have to worry about being stuck at home unable to get to work or not be able to get home until the road dries out. This is a great petition.
The road needs as much as much base course or gravel as possible.
We have some land in Arroyo Salado and hope to move out there. But it would be impossible right now because of the unpredictability of the road condition. I work 4 days a week and need to be able to get in and out without risking my life.

County road 51 between 51C and Arroyo Salado desperately needs improvement. After rain and melting snow the road becomes very dangerous with deep slippery mud. I have missed work out of fear of going into the ditch and it is very stressful driving home at night. It also happens to be in an area where there is no cell phone reception which makes it doubly dangerous! Please improve the road with basecourse or gravel and maintenance. Thank You!
