The school office just confirmed they are restoring the honors recognition to the traditional order for our ceremony. I am honestly stunned that this worked, but it is clear that your collective commitment to these students is what actually forced the change.

Enough of "everybody gets a ribbon". Let's prepare our children for the real world where hard work and excellence are recognized and rewarded.
Agree. There are many reasons to recognize achievement...not the least of which is to inspire others to achieve. Let’s not minimize the achievements in an attempt to artificially equalize unequal commitment and hard work.
It is sad that a school that prides itself on high academics, will not recognize the students that allow the school to carry such honors. Participation awards should end after kindergarten. These students are not where they are due to luck. We watch our daughter work until 2 am most days in order to keep her GPA where it is at.
If announcing ranks is so unfair and unequal, don’t recognize a valedictorian or a salutatorian either. I hope this is just a rumor, or administration is about to hear from a lot of angry kids and parents.
For many years the hard-working and excelling students have been marginalized by schools and have been forced to work like dogs to earn their high academic status. Changing the graduation order is just another method to disenfranchise those who spend their time on the path of excellence.
Recognize achievements ! Other kids want awards , they must be earned. Just showing up is not trophy worthy.

I strongly believe that academic excellence should be recognized and rewarded. The approach of "everyone's special so therefore no one is special" is not a good way to encourage excellence in education.
