Recognizing valedictorians and salutatorians has been a part of Pasco County school graduations for as long as anyone can remember. Recently, as some other area school districts move to change how they recognize top students, the Pasco County School Board has moved to eliminating the valedictorian and salutatorian distinctions. Neither of these distinctions serves as an end-all--and being valedictorian or salutatorian does not ensure future success--but they both help to honor the work of a given school's top two students. In a world that is now sadly hesitant of recognizing success, of making any distinction between those who have triumphed and those who have not, it is important that we let the Pasco County School Board know that the citizens of Pasco County do not stand behind the removal of some our most cherished school traditions.

If you agree that the Pasco County School Board should NOT eliminate the valedictorian and salutatorian distinctions, please sign this petition.

I have been hearing from so many families who feel that these traditions are the only way we honor the long nights of hard work our students put in. The school board remains silent on this change but I am currently drafting a formal letter to present these signatures at the next public meeting.

Seeing this kind of energy for our academic traditions is deeply moving. It reminds me that so many other families in this district value the hard work these students put in over the years.

CAN WE ELIMINATE MEDALS FROM OLYMPICS ? Recognizing student/s is the core to encourage them work harder . Removing the impetus will stalemate all children of PASCO not to excel in their potential.s we all may disagree on the processes but not on the ultimate goal is to encourage and bring out talents from Pasco School Students.

My daughter has been working towards this goal for four years. Please do not take away the reward for all that late night studying.

Stop changing things that work perfectly fine. Valedictorian and salutatorian honors are earned not given out for showing up.

KEEP THE TITLES. Kids need goals to reach for. Its just another way to discourage excellence in our schools.

Ridiculous. We should be rewarding hard work not watering everything down because some people get their feelings hurt. Keep the traditions.

Hard work deserves to be seen. Why punish the kids who actually push themselves to be the best?
