This could potentially be devastating economically to a town as small as ours. It would brand the town in a direction that would negatively impact commerce in the village. Wrong direction for Narrowsburg.
My wife and I were seriously thinking about purchasing a second home in Narrowsburb but will not do so because of the rehab center. This center will greatly reduce home values and deter visitors.
I say NO. This town is too small and it is too centrally located to the town. It would turn off tourists, too. I truly believe it would bring too much negativity to the area. I support rehabilitation facilities fully but it needs to be more in the outskirts of town not right smack in the middle of it.
Brendan and Kathy Weiden's proposal for an arts/cultural center is much more in keeping with the spirit of Narrowsburg, and a much likelier economic booster for the town and the county. The town's voice should matter.
No small town should house an addiction treatment facility in its centre. It should be situated in a more seculded area so the distractions of even ntownlife do not interfere with their recovery. The school is located directly across from a bar. Is that a good idea?
I fully support any inititave for recovery of those addicted to substances, but have a rehab cernter of this size in the center of Narrowsburg is not a wise move. A building the size of the proposed facility is TOO LARGE. Imagine the number of patients. Too many unanswered questions. As taxpayers we need to push for more local and sustainable uses for the building. Some of those uses could include an ongoing service to those in rehab, such as fitness, education, etc, but not as it is presently proposed

the school building would be totally inappropriate siting. Look at the youth/jobs training center (aka juvenile detention) in Callicoon: it's out of the center and well situated, without being excluded. The Narrowsburg school, by contrast, occupies the actual center of the town.
