This short and once peaceful Lane is now a dangerous rat run for cars wanting to avoid the traffic lights on Mona Vale Road. Porters Lane is too narrow to safely accommodate two-way traffic. There are many near misses and way too many of the rat run drivers using it as a raceway to get on to Mona Vale Road. Cars parked on the Lane are regularly scratched and mirrors are hit by passing traffic. The lack of parking has made the problem worse. Removalists and courier vans often park in in driveways due to lack of parking. This makes it even harder for the two way traffic to get past and puts residents and their children in danger.
Ku-ring-gai Council has been promising for years to fix the problem and has done nothing except pocket the monies paid to them by developers to improve Porters Lane. We were promised that once the units were completed the Lane would be resurfaced and the traffic would be made one way. The road was resurfaced long ago but nothing has been done about changing the traffic.
We need action now. By signing this petition you are asking the Council to:
1. Stop the rat run use of our Lane and make it one way as promised for years;
2. Lower the speed limit on the Lane to 40k and put in speedbumps to slow the traffic;
3. Fix the parking situation by providing clear signage that parking is not allowed in driveways and by providing residents of Porters Lane with resident passes to park in the Council carpark on Porters Lane.
One day when walking along Porters Lane a B-double truck came from Rosedale Rd end and took up the whole road with parked cars on one side. Traffic going from Lynbara Rd to Rosedale Rd had to back into driveways to let the b-double pass. There is a no truck sign at the Lynbara Rd end but it is needed at the Rosedale Rd end. B-double trucks should not be using residential side streets and lane ways for short cuts to where they want to go.
