Fix our unsafe vehicle traffic situation at 101st St and Artesian, West Beverly, Chicago
Every day and every night, many vehicles drive the wrong way (westbound) on 101st street from Western Ave., a One Way eastbound street.
There is plenty of signage at Western Ave (Do Not Enter and One Way signs) but it is routinely ignored.
There is NO signage at the corner of 101st and Artesian, so they just sail on through, westbound toward Beverly Park.
There has been no effort to enforce the traffic law being ignored here.
Pedestrians and other law abiding drivers don't expect traffic from that direction, especially since that traffic does not stop, or even slow down, so there's little to no warning.
This creates an especially dangerous situation, considering that it is 1/2 block away from Beverly Park, with lots of children walking to and from the park every day. Springtime sees a lot of Little League kids on bikes. Summer and fall it's the same with grade school football. And then fall soccer. Not to mention Sutherland students walking that path all schoolyear.
It is a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt, or even killed in this intersection. There has already been at least one serious car crash which resulted in the total loss of a law abiding drivers vehicle.
This issue has been raised numerous times over the past 2+ years with our Alderman, Mr. Matt O'Shea, to no avail. e need a solution BEFORE one of our young children is hurt or killed as a result of the inaction, and the lack of law enforcement by the City of Chicago.
If the City of Chicago is struggling for a solution, there are residents here that have some ideas about how to mitigate this situation, and they would likely be happy to meet with a City representative to discuss them.
BUT WE NEED SOME ACTION NOW !
