The Council confirmed they are dropping the plan to charge for parking in Lindley. My heart is full knowing our local shops and library will remain accessible to everyone without this unfair burden. We held our ground and protected the heart of our village.

Kirklees Council plans for an end to FREE parking in Lindley? Cllr Cahal Burke is leading the fight back.

Kirklees Labour plans in the Council Budget refer to a "review" of parking charges in towns and villages where it is currently FREE.

The Budget assumes that new charges will raise £250,000 from drivers over the next couple of years. No wonder the result of the “review” is seen as a forgone conclusion with Labour having already made up their minds.

However, we CAN STOP this attack on the viability of Lindley.

Please sign the Petition and then please spread the word and ask people to sign. We need a massive show of support to stop this going ahead.

Lindley does benefit from free car parking. Having free parking in the centre of the village helps to encourage shoppers, visitors, and organisations to visit our local businesses & Library.

I see the counter climbing toward our next goal and I know my neighbors are feeling the same frustration I am. Please send this link to two people who live or shop in Lindley so we can force the Council to listen to us before they finalize these damaging charges.

Watching this list grow reminds me of how much our village depends on those parking spots for simple errands. We are nearly at our first century of signatures and I need your help to push us over that line today. Send the link to your neighbors so we can show the Council that our small businesses deserve a fair chance.

The amount of money raised from charging for parking will surely be negated by some loss of business rates revenue because businesses can’t afford them and close. Kirklees obviously want to continue to turn all shopping areas into ghost towns

Lindley is now thriving again after years of people choosing to shop/eat/drink elsewhere. This is a blatant money grabbing exercise, to boost the coffers from a community working together to build a future. We need to encourage traders & the wider public not put them off.

My business would be affected. We have children and parents that come to visit and rely in free parking. If these plans go ahead my small business would suffer and could close me down. All parking on the street by me is permit holders only so we rely on these car parks

Why discourage people from shopping locally? This will only drive potential customers for the shops further into the hands of supermarkets where parking is always available at no charge. Don't kill the village.

Lindley is a thriving village with a great range of local shops. Charging for parking will make it hard for local traders to survive & push vehicles onto the smaller already congested pedestrian streets, one of which houses the entrances to a school, kids club & dance school. This is a terrible idea

As a Lindley street resident I strongly object to the proposals to introduce charges at Lindley car park. It is already difficult to park on the street near our house and these proposals will only exacerbate the situation.

A hugely convenient car park mercifully free from greedy entrepreneurs. A boon to our local community. And now the council want to take it away. Beyond belief! We say, No.
