Our Basic rights are being infringed upon by making it impossible to be able to afford electricity (which is a basic need) The value of your house now determines your tarrif... (R400 000 and more) If you own a home of R400 000 the City regards you as being rich and able to afford.. Even though you are unemployed or an elderly citizen. You are not informed of any changes and thus it is being enforced upon you.
People have to cut down on other essentials as electricity is a basic need. There are people stealing electricity & illegally connecting electricity BUT YOU THE WORKER MUST PAY... THE POOR IS GETTING POORER and will be forced to sell their homes as electricity has become a financial strain. Does the government want us in shacks in order to get things free or subsidised.. What about the people who have a R400 000 BOND for 20 years?
What about people who inherit properties but is unemployed? What about a single mother with 5 children owning a property of this value? In other words.. You wouldn't want to upgrade your house, because you will then be on the highest electricity tariff... Are we restricted in our own homes? Homes we suffer for..just to get it paid... This is unconstitutional...
It goes against the BILL OF RIGHTS!!! WE NEED TO ACT...THIS CITY NEEDS TO KNOW THAT WE ARE THE CITIZENS AND WE SHOULD BE PROTECTED & RESPECTED... WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO HUMAN DIGNITY... & EQUALITY!!!! THIS IS ANOTHER FORM OF APARTHEID THAT MUST BE ABOLISHED!!! LETS STAND UP FOR OUR RIGHTS!!!!

I use less electricity but gets charged based on the value of my house. Go check up on people who is stealing electricity and get your money from them! Our poor pensioners must suffer because the city can't do their work properly... nonsense!
The hike in electricity prices has been astronomical and I can definitely see a change . renting a property and used to pay R800 per month for electricity and that would keep me till well over the new month . bought 400 so far and its only the 7th!
Electricity is eating our pockets. Im a 1st time home owner, i bought an entry level house in kuilsriver for R420 000, the area in which i live is neighbouring the low income earners, how on earth do i fall within the high tarrif bracket?
I have pay from R270 a month to R600 now for elec....Craziness....its unfair...and agree with all comments on FB comments..its a rip off...it doesnt mean that becoz ur valuation is more than R400000 u RICH!?? Hell no, we all making sacrifices....
Electricity tariffs must fall bcos we cannot cope anymore.. Everything is expensive nd many ppl r unemployed so it's a real challenge jst to survive. Government shud take care of the ppl bt instead they r making life unbearable.
We can't survive with the high increase on electricity which is a basic need,.how.must the less fortunate and pensioners survive.

We are a family of 6 adults and 1 baby that use to be able to get through R250/R300pm now we have to fork out R50pd with a income of R10000.00 in total how are we supposed to live and pay our bills when half of our income goes to eskom/coct
