The government has officially confirmed the decision to keep the Gilbert Institute open. This outcome belongs to everyone who stood by our school throughout this process. We will remain vigilant as the education reform begins to ensure that the needs of our students continue to be met.

Final supporters
Gilbert Institute is one of four primary schools that could face potential closure. Though a final decision has not been made, we the Gilbert Institute Parent Teacher Association (PTA) believes that change is indeed needed within Bermuda’s education system, however this change should be via a systematic and structured plan to improve Bermuda’s educational system holistically.
That being said, we believe that Gilbert Institute plays a vital and important part in the quality education provided to its students and remains one of a few schools that provides a high level of quality of service for children that are hearing impaired, ADHD, ADD, and need assistance via the Learning Support Program.
As a direct result, we are creating the attached petition because we believe that education is a critical part of our community, and want to encourage Government to see, hear and witness that Gilbert Institute is a top notch school, that supports children in a small and supportive environment. “We are Gilbert”. Our little school gets tremendous support from the community, and we are asking you to continue supporting us in keeping Gilbert Institute open.

I attended Gilbert It is a great school. They need to keep it open because the teachers will lose their jobs. The children that live right by the school will probably have to travel to the other side of the island to go to school. I think that is totally not fare at all
Where are the children with special needs supposed to go? Not just hearing impaired but a wide range of different services are offered to children who cannot function is larger school settings. PLEASE DO NOT SHAFT THESE CHILDREN'S FUTURE!!
I went to school at Gilbert some 56 years ago . There is a solution to every problem, closing the school is will not fix these problems, it will just create new one's. Sounds like the board of education needs some new faces to deal with these challenges.
Pleaes do not close this school. Kids with special needs (both visible and hidden) require a smaller, nurturing environment and Gilbert is the place for them. The location is ideal and the family like community here is great.
Every public school in Bermuda should have full time staff to assist children with learning challenges such as dyslexia, ADD and ADHD. Statistics show that 1 in 4 children have some form of learning challenge, and many are going undiagnosed. If Gilbert does in fact help these children, please don't shut it down.

My children attended this school and I have visited this school on many occasions The standards of polite and caring students is exceptional. I was treasurer of the PTA in the 70s and I say Please Do Not Close Gilbert

I support the learning support program at this school, why close a school that provides great support for children of ADHD, ADD, and Hearing impaired needs. The children are our "FUTURE'.
