Please sign the petition to keep Stuart Wood Elementary School open,
OR if closure is imminent
provide
transportation for students who would normally attend the downtown location.
In
the downtown core there is only one school that many of our children
attend. The closure of this school would
cause residents, many of which are already marginalized or people of low
income, to have to provide a way for their children to get to school and be
picked up after school. Many of these
families do not have a vehicle and would have to rely on public transit to
transfer their children up the hill to the proposed new Stuart Wood Campus. An awareness that the school may be outdated
in terms of wheel chair accessibility and heating costs is true, but I propose
that an update to the school is what is needed rather than a closure. In any event if closure is imminent I propose
that alternate transportation be provided by the school district, such as a
school bus to make the commute easier for downtown parents.
Thank
you in advance for considering this petition.
This school is an historic building in town if Haritage homes can be updated so can stuart wood this school is integral for the low income familys of the area and bussing or having to walk more then 2 km from Elizabeth Court to Beatie is too far for children to walk in ideal weather conditions let alone winter and the fact it would be up Columbia street one of the major streets in Kamloops would the decision makers think for a bit about the reality of effects this will have on familys low income or not its apauling keep this school open do the updates durring summer break and keep this amazing school open ive seen first hand the difference stuart wood has made in the lives of many familys in Kamloops its a Great school with Great facalty
