Due to an antiquated law in the city of Salem MA, residents who reside on Derby Street in Salem MA are not permitted to have residential parking permit stickers which would allow them to park legally on the many side streets. A few chosen residents on Derby Street have been given parking permits along with guest parking permits.

This leaves many who live on Derby Street with out any legal place to park during the day, evening and weekends as tourists and those who live on adjacent side streets and their guests also park on Derby Street- thus leaving no spaces for those who may only be permitted to park there. Parking on the side streets without a permit is cause for ticketing and towing the vehicle. Thus the residents of Derby Street have no where to park.

The residents of Derby Street are also Salem residents that pay taxes on their homes, businesses and cars. They pay fees for their dogs, water and trash. All this money  goes to the City of Salem whose responsibility is to its residents. Yet the City of Salem caters to the parking needs of its tourists instead of these residents. Because no positive response to our request over the years has been made, we are now taking this action.

We the people of Derby Street request resident parking stickers immediately  for everyone residing on Derby Street Salem MA.
Thank you,

Its totally ridiculous that I have to circle for 20 minutes every night just to get home. Tourists get to park right in front while people who live here and pay taxes get ticketed. This needs to get fixed now.

Finally someone said it! Getting a spot on Derby st is a nightmare on weekends. We deserve the same parking rights as everyone else in this city.
