We ask that the Gananoque Town Council declare a "climate change emergency".
This has been a strange Spring, cool and long, with flooding set to exceed that of 2017. We are seeing things like ticks carrying diseases moving into our area as the weather becomes more suitable to them. Gananoque is noted as being a lyme disease hot spot. Other Ontario municipalities are recognizing we have changing weather patterns that are going to affect us all in negative ways. The brunt of these effects are and will continue to be felt most on the local level and municipalities need to be planning and ready for the challenges of this.
Gananoque has been forward thinking in the past. It is time to be so again.

Every public and private organization on this planet has a moral duty to address the devastating prospect of run-away climate change, which will adversely effect all of us. Many are already paying a severe price with forest fires and flooding destroying their homes and lively-hood. The only question left now is how severe. Act now or kiss your children's future, and possibly your own, goodbye.
The progressive thing to do is recognize that this is a crisis affecting everyone. Only then, will something be done.
We need to see change sooner than later
Our municipality needs to continue to work towards a sustainable future. Think globally act locally to reduce greenhouse gases and promote a sustainable economy.

The sooner we admit we have a climate breakdown problem, the sooner we can rise to the challenge of fixing it! Let’s do this Gananoque!
