By signing this petition you request that Concordia University Wisconsin refunds all on campus students the full 50% of room and board costs for the 2020 Spring Semester. This should amount to nearly $2,800 in refunds for each on campus student. Currently, refunds have been adjusted so that 13.5% of a student's financial aid awards are subtracted from the total refundable amount. Because of this, the amount that students are receiving back is significantly less than expected. Concordia switched all on campus students to off campus residents when we were forced to move out due to COVID-19. This allowed for CUW to reduce the total financial aid each student was eligible to receive for the 2020 Spring Semester. This reduction was seen through our surprisingly minimal room and board refunds. Students paid the full cost of room and board and only received 50% of what they paid for. Therefore, they should receive the full 50% of their money back. Under this current system, students who are smart, hard working, and in greater financial need are receiving less money back from CUW. CUW is using a loophole that allows them to keep funds that students are rightfully owed and in desperate need of. This is not reflective of how a Christian university should conduct itself. Many CUW students are struggling financially during these difficult times. We were counting on the full 50% refund to put toward next semester or other essential expenses. However, we have all been extremely disappointed with the choices made by our university.

I keep refreshing the page because we are just about to hit one hundred signatures and the momentum is actually wild right now. If you have been waiting for the right moment to blast this out to your group chats or just tell that one roommate who always forgets to check their email then please do it now because I really want to see us blow past that milestone before the day is over.

As a parent of a CUW freshman, this is extremely upsetting news to us. We will be praying that admin corrects this selfish error (We must TRUST that God will provide for all our needs, even Universities) AS WELL AS the decision if we are to send our son back for future enrollment!

I received a refund that was less then that aid that was stripped from me after signing an acceptance letter of the granted aid a year prior. Therefore, I not only was forced out of my dorm, cut off of my meal plan, but I also lost money. CUW you can do better than this, think about the wellbeing of your students. This is uncommon and not in a righteous way. I am disappointed in my own school.

It is unfair to take money that was dedicated to allowing access to on campus services, despite us being forced to leave campus for the majority of second semester. We deserve 50%back because we only had access to campus for 50%of the year.

Our students should be getting a 50% refund on their room and board. They had to leave the school over Spring Break. That was half way through their semester. Obviously they should not pay if they’re not at school.

Refunds for room and board, plus meal plans for the time not on campus should not be something students need to fight to get. Care more about the students and less about the money you can try unethically take from them. All students and parents had to find housing and pay for food when the school closed so refund the families!!!

The refund should equate directly to room and board costs paid for the spring semester. If only there 50% of time then 50% of costs should be refunded.

You are asking for money you never had. Some of your room and board would have been paid by your financial aid, which Concordia owns. They have a right to keep their money you did not use.

We aren't paying for housing-- we're giving them some of the money back that they were giving us for housing, specifically 13.5% of our financial aid for the semester.
