The City of San Clemente has already approved their crossing guard budget for the 2022-2023 school year. They were not aware of the desperate need for a crossing guard at the Calle Saluda/Avenida Talega intersection. Upon inspection they admitted hundreds of children cross through here on the way to and from school. In order to approve a crossing guard this year, they need to hear from the community as the funds will come from the general fund. All signatures need to be in by 9/26 for the 10/18 meeting. Petition will be sent to Zack Ponson 949-361-6135 to be presented to the board. Please consider signing to make this intersection safe.

The city officials have acknowledged this surge in community interest regarding the intersection. I have scheduled a formal meeting with Zack Ponson to review the collected signatures and discuss the budget reallocation for a crossing guard.

Our previous school had a 9 year old child die when her and her 6 yr old brother were hit by a car at a yield left turn where crossing guards only did one side of the intersection. We never think it will happen until it does. It was devastating for the family and community.
2 children who use this crosswalk daily, and have seen multiple accidents and so many more close calls.
So necessary!! I personally have seen 3!!! kids been hit by cars or hitting cars because of the mess that happens there.
I reside at 20 Calle Akelia in Talega. Saluda and Talega are highly trafficked areas for both commuters and students crossing to go to school. Please keep our kiddos safe and add a crossing guard at this intersection. Many thanks in advance for this consideration, Susie Brutosky
Please place a crossing guard at this intersection. I had a frightening experience with a young boy crossing that intersection on an ebike when the light for the crosswalk was red. I was turning left on a green arrow and I had to slam on my breaks to avoid hitting him. I witnessed a similar situation at the exact intersection a few weeks later. A crossing guard is desperately needed there to prevent a casualty from occurring.
We definitely need crossing guards at Calle Saluda and Talega! Too many kids and bikes during school hours.
Absolutely a necessity to have crossing guards! Duh!

A crossing guard is imperative for this intersection in Talega as there are many peds, electric bikes, and turning cars using this path.
