- We are neighbors of North Butler Tarkington & we are requesting a traffic study in order to safely access the canal towpath at Westfield and Illinois St.
There is no connecting sidewalk from 57th street down to the canal on Westfield on Illinois street. The speed limit is routinely disregarded on Illinois and we fear for pedestrian safety when approaching The Riviera Club entrance where there is no sidewalk or bike lane.
Please consider safe access to the canal at this intersection for our community!

Reaching this level of support honestly feels surreal after months of feeling like we were shouting into the void. It is exhausting to keep chasing this goal but seeing the momentum shift gives me enough energy to keep going for a while longer.

My daughter rides her bike from 57th and Illinois to Rivi and shops at 56th often. It scares me to death.
My husband is legally blind and this intersection is a death trap for him to cross!
This is a busy intersection with cars, kids on bikes, pedestrians and canal walkers. It cries out for a sidewalk for those on foot. The intersection is also confusing for north bound traffic because 2 lanes become one going across bridge. Pancake collisions are inevitable. Please fix and protect pedestrians. Many times they are young kids. Thank you.
This is a terribly confusing intersection, especially with pedestrians in the mix. I have had a couple close calls with pedestrians while turning left onto Illinois from Westfield boulevard. I would greatly appreciate this intersection being re-evaluated and made safer.
We've been almost hit here many times. A friend's teenage daughter was hit and had her pelvis broken. Crossing Illinois in the towpath is incredibly dangerous, even with the "walk" sign lit. visibility is poor for drivers, and turning traffic has too much to be aware of to notice pedestrians/bikers.
For pedestrian and cyclist safety, please, please provide a crosswalk.
REALLY need a sidewalk to connect from towpath to 56th. It’s only 1/2 block but kids have to walk and ride their bikes on the road to get to the Rivi. Can we get this done BEFORE someone gets hit?

Rivi is a rare gem and a LOT of kids walk / bike there independently. Side walks and bike lanes would be a huge safety improvement. It would also greatly improve connections to the Towpath and the commercial node at Illinois and 56th.
