The transition is official and our college will finally operate under independent local governance. It was a long road to get here but I am relieved that we stayed the course. Now we move into the actual work of building the future we fought for.

By signing this petition, I indicate my support for transitioning the branch community college located in Carlsbad, New Mexico (which became a branch of the New Mexico State University system several decades ago), back into an independent community college. Having local governance will result in greater responsiveness to campus needs, better serve the student body, and enhance delivery of educational services in southeastern New Mexico.

The emails I receive from students and staff highlight how much this transition is needed for our local independence. It is exhausting to keep pushing against the status quo, but I have not forgotten why we started this fight.

I support the autonomous running of our local university. Far too long NMSU has treated it as a second class facility.
As a student at NMSU I can contest that this campus has been let down by the main campus and fallen thru the cracks, it would better serve all of us students to have a school of an independent nature, that focus is that of benefiting the local community.
We have always supported the nursing programs which is the highest rated and one of the few accredited in the state.
I agree. We can adapt to changes in our economy by changing programs as needed to ensure properly trained workers.
I believe this change will benefit the community and definitely the employees. I, myself, am employed there and looking forward to this change!
I am highly in favor of this!

As the Carlsbad Early College High School Principal housed on the campus, I fully support moving to a community college. Thank you!
