This weekend, three cars were broken into on the stretch of Cornthwaite Rd between Newick and Mildenhall Roads. Car crime happens so often on this stretch of road that barely a weekend goes by without us seeing a car window smashed, a lock wrenched off or a door forced open. Because there are no houses facing Cornthwaite Road thieves know they can get away with it - on Saturday they broke into a van in broad daylight. We are fed up with feeling vulnerable, having our cars smashed, our possessions stolen and paying higher insurance premiums. We want a camera put up on Cornthwaite Road. The police say Hackney Council will not spend £30,000 on installing and monitoring a camera unless the situation is really bad. We think the situation is bad enough now.
