We, the undersigned residents of the islands of Casco Bay, believe that reliable, high-speed internet access is an increasingly important tool when it comes to education, health, employment, and the economy.

We support the City of Portland's Broadband Planning Committee's exploration into solutions that may establish or improve broadband access in our homes, business, and public spaces.

I was just out on the porch trying to send a single email and it took ten minutes because the connection is basically non-existent and it just reminds me again why we are doing this. People keep telling me their own stories about missed meetings or homework struggles and honestly it is so frustrating but knowing I am not the only one dealing with this mess makes it feel a little less lonely.

I was looking at the total sitting on the screen and realized how much this has snowballed from just a few frustrated texts between neighbors about the spotty connection. Honestly I am still trying to wrap my head around the fact that enough people care to push this forward because it really felt like we were shouting into the void for a while there.

ADSL2+ service delivered by Consolidated falls far short of the federal standard for broadband Internet service. It traverses aging and fragile infrastructure and is thus subject to degradation.

Cell phone connections on GT Diamond are VERY tenuous, depending both on location, time of day, and traffic, so even for phones Broadband is crucial. Add to that any kind of data connectivity and internet, reliable high-speed internet is essential for keeping island residents viable.

I'm a freelance illustrator and have worked from home since moving to Peaks 28 years ago. I've had many levels of success trying to send large image files to clients and printers. Reliable, high-speed internet is a critical public service, particularly now that more education and health services are depending on it during the pandemic.

Please help the Portland taxpaying residents on Casco Bay Islands be able to fulfill the needs of "work from home" during the pandemic by providing reliable, high-speed internet. This is an equity and jobs issue so we don't fall behind economically. THANK YOU for your consideration.

My DSL service actually works well, but know many people on LDI have had significant problems so would like to explore broadband options.
